Project-based education on youth activism through small-scale local actions.

While students believe that active citizenship is too far away from their daily lives, the major task for teachers is to show students that the needs of different groups of people can be affected by the power structure in decision-making, based on age and social status. Students often do not believe that they can influence local environmental factors, decision makers and economic factors. Teachers who use the flipped classroom model , ally with the new trend in classrooms and society to be active citizens. In a flipped classroom, students encounter instructional material outside of the traditional classroom setting, absorbing the content independently at home, and then actively engage in applying and practicing what they’ve learned during their in-class time. They involve students in small-scale activities sufficient to stimulate critical thinking and encourage them to take on projects aimed at improving the future.

Objectives

Teachers who enjoy integrating teaching should take this course. All educators who are dedicated to identifying chances for students to engage in active citizenship within their subject areas would benefit from the course material. Participants will know how to apply the flipped approach to a variety of active citizenship issues by the end of the course. They will have the ability to guide pupils through the design thinking method as they consider various societal issues.

Methodology

The participants engage in flipped classroom-style active citizenship education activities. In order to improve student engagement and learning, hands-on activities assign books for students to do at home and focus on real-world problem-solving in class. Additionally, fieldwork will be experienced by participants, which is helpful when implementing a design thinking strategy for global education. Since cooperation is another aspect of active citizenship, the participants will schedule their upcoming joint ventures.
