Incarceration due to the COVID-19 pandemic brought to the surface many pathologies of families and made more evident the lack of quality time with children, creative activities, spending significant time of the day outside the home and group play with family members. It is now common for fathers and mothers to work long hours, especially today, which makes spending quality time with children a luxury rather than a necessity for bonding and creating a safe environment.  Lately, kids are relying more on screens, spending too much time in front of TVs, computers, and smartphones. This inactive lifestyle can impede their overall development and health. Hence, it’s crucial for parents to promote and engage in outdoor activities actively to ensure a well-rounded upbringing for their children. Devoting quality and quantity time to children creates a feeling of security, of deserving, of belonging and of love. Outdoor activities, in particular, create strong emotional bonds with parents and siblings, long-lasting memories and develop a love of nature and activities in general. The core idea involves participating in physical activities set in natural environments, detached from the constraints of home or urban living. Outdoor activities enhance physical health, reduce stress and promote an active lifestyle. Nature provides a distraction-free environment for bonding and open discussions between families, and encourages teamwork in activities such as hiking, fostering unity. Finally, outdoor adventures foster an appreciation for nature and environmental awareness.

Participants will explore the various challenges and pathologies that emerged within families during the pandemic-induced incarceration, shedding light on issues related to quality time, creativity, and outdoor activities. Participants will grasp the negative effects of excessive screen time on children’s development, particularly in terms of overall health and well-being. The course emphasizes the importance of parents actively participating in outdoor activities with their children to counteract the negative effects of sedentary lifestyles. This includes fostering emotional bonds, creating lasting memories, and instilling a love for nature.


This course, provide the theoretical knowledge on family dynamics, the impact of screen time, and the importance of outdoor activities for child development, through presentations and articles that will be discussed during the group sessions and related reading materials, articles, and online resources. A guest speaker who is related in child development, psychology, or family dynamics will provide real-world insights and practical tips, emphasizing positive outcomes from implementing quality time and outdoor engagement. During the course will be conducted practical workshops where participants will engage in activities that promote quality time, creativity, and outdoor play, so they will find the motivation and new ideas. Outdoor sessions will be organized to demonstrate the positive impact of nature on family bonding.
